MARTIN BOULOCQ, WRITER/DIRECTOR/DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY He began experimenting and directing a number of musical videos and short films, which he won him awards such as 1st Price of the Jury at the National festival of Young movie and Video Films (productions of the group “Jóvenes Elegantes) in 2001. Then in 2002 , he won the 1ST Price to the Best short film for “Don't want to cry” at the II National Video and Film Festival in La Paz. He also went on to win “Best Young Director” from CONACINE. He already has more than 15 short films and video clips. ALBA BALDERRAMA PRODUCER Alba started in production by getting involved with documentaries and cultural projects in Cochabamba, La Paz and Santa Cruz. After studying economics for two years in New Jersey, she went back to Bolivia to Major in social Communication in Bolivia, where she produced her first film for Conference of Cinema Authorities in Iberoamérica. She went on to work as a freelance producer for scientific, educative, ecological and art films for foundations and non-profits organizations, in addition to producing documentaries and short films. In 2000, she started an alternative group of young filmmakers to teach “guerrilla cinema” and experimentation with forms of creation and production. Together with this group, she won the Jury Prize at the National Festival of Young Filmmakers in 2002. As co-founder and producer of this group, called “Jóvenes Elegantes” (Young Elegants), she met with filmmaker Martín Boulocq when he was beginning work on this film. Soon after, Alba produced music videos, short film and his first feature with Martín. ARRIVAL CINEMA Sam Englebardt and Ara Katz are co-founders and owners of Arrival Cinema, LLC, an independent feature film production company. In the past few years, Arrival’s films have premiered at the world´s most prestigious festivals (AFI, Toronto, Venice and Cannes) and have featured such notable actors as Natalie Portman, Orlando Bloom, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, Juliette Binoche, Julia Stiles and more. Academy Award-winning directors Gus Van Sant, Alexander Payne and Joel & Etan Coen alongside emerging Directors such as Martín Boulocq are just a few of the many visionary Directors whom Arrival has involved in their projects. ARA KATZ (ARRIVAL CINEMA), PRODUCER Ara’s first independent producing effort was the Spanish-language feature, Dependencia Sexual, which garnered critical acclaim in A-list festivals and was Bolivia’s entry in the Best Foreign Film category of the 2003 Academy Awards. Following on her first film’s success, Ara partnered with Sam Englebardt to found Arrival, where she heads production and development. Before beginning her career as a Producer, Ara graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University and interned with several entertainment companies, including Miramax International, Jersey Films and Sky Digital in London. SAM ENGLEBARDT (ARRIVAL CINEMA), PRODUCER Sam earned his law degree from Harvard Law School in 2004 and passed the California Bar. In addition to handling Arrival’s legal and business affairs, he works part-time for Phillip L. Rosen, Esq. (former Senior VP, Business and Legal Affairs, at New Line Cinema) and has performed production legal services on several independent and studio pictures, including New Line’s Just Friends, starring Ryan Reynolds and Amanda Smart; and Edmond, starring William H. Macy and Julia Stiles. Prior to law school, Sam studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University and the University of Colorado-Boulder, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. KEVIN RAGSDALE PRODUCER / RYAN JOHNSON, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER (PRETTY DANGEROUS FILMS) Former Mandalay Pictures executive and producer, Ryan R. Johnson, partnered with the Kevin Ragsdale and the Garmonbozia Fund in January 2003 to open Venice-based production company, Pretty Dangerous Films. The company has produced a slate of pictures such as Asia Argento’ s The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things starring Winona Ryder, Peter F onda, Jeremy Sisto and Asia Argento (Official selection to the 2004 Cannes Film F estival), The Nickel Children directed by Glenn Klinker starring Tom Sizemore, T amara Hope, Marsha Thomason and Jeremy Sisto, Back in the Day starring Ving Rhames and Ja Rule, The Curse of El Charro starring Andrew Bryniarski and Dann y Trejo, 7 MUMMIES directed by Nick Quested starring Matt Schulze, Cerina Vincent, Dann y Trejo, Billy Drago, Adrianne Palicki, Noel Guglielmi, and Noreaga for Lions Gate Home Video, and Edmond, a David Mamet drama directed by Stuart Gordon starring William H. Macy, Julia Stiles, Mena Suvari, Dylan Walsh, Denise Richards and Bai Ling for First Independent and Wild Bunch, which premiered in V enice this past August. RODRIGO BELLOTT EXECUTIVE PRODUCER Rodrigo’s first student film, DESTIERRO, was one of five films nominated for the student Academy Award, and went on to win several film festivals including a Kodak Grant which allowed him to shoot SEXO. While at Ithaca College, Rodrigo wrote and directed DEPENDENCIA SEXUAL (Sexual Dependency), his first feature film. The film premiered at the 2003 Locarno Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI award. Since then, it has received seven other awards on four different continents as well as tremendous critical reception at over 56 festivals, including Rotterdam, Toronto, AFI and Telluride. The film was a box office success in Bolivia, and marked the re-birth of Bolivian cinema as the country’s first official selection competing for “Best Foreign Language Film” at the 2004 Academy Awards. The Los Angeles Times named DEPENDENCIA SEXUAL as the best film of 2003 AFI Film Festival, and the film was listed by Indiewire as one the 20 best films of 2003. DEPENDENCIA SEXUAL was the first digital film in Bolivian history and revolutionized the industry by introducing a new aesthetic and visual style, marking the beginning of what numerous critics have called the “new Bolivian Cinema.” Rodrigo just finished production on his second feature WHO KILLED THE WHITE LLAMA with producers of CITY OF GOD, currently in post-production. He has a BFA in Film, Photography and Visual Arts with a minor in Art History from Ithaca College. CHRIS HANLEY EXECUTIVE PRODUCER Hanley’s independent production company, Muse Productions, made its mark with the success of genre-bending films like Steve Buscemi's directorial debut TREES LOUNGE, which garnered an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Director. Hanley's off-beat sensibility are signature elements of such films as James Toback's TWO GIRLS AND A GUY, Vincent Gallo's stunning BUFFALO 66, and Director Sofia Coppola's adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides' novel, THE VIRGIN SUICIDES.
